Supported Independent Living

We are passionate about creating an environment where people are supported to live life, their way

At Caring Australia, we offer NDIS supported independent living (SIL) services. These are services designed for participants who typically reside in a shared home and are looking for support to live as independently as possible.SIL services include help with, or supervision of, daily tasks, and at Caring Australia, we focus on delivering services to help increase the independence of participants.

Whether you have lower, standard or complex SIL needs, we can provide a team of friendly, qualified support workers to assist with daily living tasks, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is a shared living arrangement of 2 to 7 NDIS participants, with 24/7 support in a home environment. SIL supports people with disability that require assistance with daily life tasks. Each resident is funded individually and the funding reflects their individual and shared support in the home.

The NDIA has set criteria to access funding for SIL based on ‘reasonable & necessary supports’. To be eligible for SIL funding a participant must:

  • Provide evidence that they are unable to live without 24/7 supports. This is identified through a Functional Assessment Report (FAR) undertaken by an Allied Health professional.
  • Provide an Identifying Housing Solution’s report by a support coordinator.

Eligibility must also:

  • Take into account informal supports provided by families, carers, networks and the community.
  • Be effective and beneficial to the participant.

Caring Australia can support you in determining your eligibility for funding.

Caring Australia will provide you with support with daily life tasks within your home as a group or individually. Support has the intent of building independence and may include:

  • cooking and preparing meals
  • personal care such as showering
  • distributing medication
  • learning to catch public transport
  • social outings with other housemates
  • taking you to medical appointments and recreation activities.
Funding for SIL begins only when your eligibility has been determined and you have found a home and housemates to move in with. Once these steps have been completed then we can support you in submitting funding requests to the NDIA for approval.
Now that your eligibility has been determined we can start to find a home and housemates for you to move in with. These actions must be completed before we start the process of submission for SIL funding with the NDIA. We have a team of experts on hand to support you in starting this process, contact our friendly “Match Makers” today to begin your journey.

SIL funding is dependent on the level of care required for the resident and is categorised as standard or complex, your NDIS funding covers support needs only. The cost of support does NOT include:

  • rental for the home;
  • day-to-day living expenses such as food, activities or supports when hospitalised;
  • items covered in other sections of the NDIS price guide such as assistive technology, transport costs, day program and work.

Additional costs can be found in the NDIS Price List.
