Trevor, 55, is one of the earliest clients to join Caring Australia, becoming part of our community in June 2023. Diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder, Trevor had a clear goal — to live independently in a home where he felt safe, respected, and in control of his life.
Before finding his place with Caring Australia, Trevor had trialled several services, but none quite met his expectations. That changed when he moved into our Supported Independent Living (SIL) accommodation. What stood out most to Trevor was the ability to choose his own support team and structure his daily routine around his personal preferences and goals.
Trevor receives 24/7 support, including assistance with medication, personal hygiene, and freshly prepared meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. He takes pride in planning his days — whether it’s shopping at Woolworths for ingredients, visiting his favourite coffee shop in Yagoona, or spending time outdoors at Lidcombe Central Park.
Trevor is supported by a team of health professionals, including his local GP, podiatrist, and hospital team, to ensure his health and wellbeing remain a priority.
One of Trevor’s most inspiring achievements is his personal health journey. When he joined Caring Australia, he set himself the goal of losing weight to feel more energetic and youthful — and he succeeded. With the support of our team, a healthy diet, and regular exercise, Trevor lost 30 kilograms.
Trevor’s story is a powerful example of what’s possible when individuals are supported with dignity, choice, and the right environment to thrive.
